I enjoy the pure aesthetic experience of light and color. I would like my paintings to allow the viewer to escape in the feel of the colors, shapes, textures and space with intense pleasure.  I believe everyone is born with the capacity to experience the joy I feel when I paint.

There is a current trend in painting to look back to the aesthetic experience as an end in itself. This is what is referred to as non-objective abstract art.  In it's essence, it is pure emotion and beauty.  This is why it is a challenge to create abstraction and invoke it with meaning.  Each painting contains a mystery or abstraction of real life forms to be viewed as a metaphor for natural elements and forces, such as water, earth, wind, fire and sky.  Each painting also conveys a particular emotion or sensation created by the color harmonies.

The compositions evoke a tension between open and closed space. In developing the composition, I use the "Automatic" method in which one lets go of any pre-conceived ideas in order to tap into the subliminal creative mind.  This process has led to suggestions of  human figures, the forces of nature and the presence of architectural forms.

The media is either oil or acrylic on canvas.  I am attempting to translate the jewel like transparencies of watercolors to these mediums.  I try with my brush to capture the freshness of a moment in time.  Working on canvas allows flexibility of size and of a range of expression, from intimacy to bravado.

I am particularly interested in the emotional aspects of color and it's powerful expression.
